These past four days,
I’ve been under the tutelage of two chefs. I will be forever grateful to our primary instructor Chef Andy Canete, who has served as a sous chef (2nd to the executive chef, the top kitchen boss), and Chef Rory Subida, a culinary luminary who has written cookbooks and now serving as the General Manager of The Maya Kitchen.
(PS:No, I did not find any sign of Remy* in the kitchen where we’ve been polishing our culinary skills but from what I’ve learned, Remy’s kind is definitely off-limits.)
I think my group was the “most behaved” among the three groups, which could be attributed to the fact that most, not all, of us are the silent types (or so I think, or maybe we’re just too engrossed with cooking, or just shy to talk). But I couldn’t have chosen better groupmates than ZsaZsa, Erol, Mark, JC, and John.
If any of you reading this has plans on taking up short culinary courses, I suggest that you go for it. It’s never too early, or too late, to add a little bit of spice to your life.

Err, do they have classes for beginners? Or at least for kitchen idiots like me who need to know how to fend for himself whenever his Mom leaves him and the dog alone for a couple of weeks…
Just tell us if you need tasters of your newly learned dishes ha?
Hi Singlgy, the class I took can be for beginners–provided you do not have any aversion to mincing, cutting, boiling etc. Or you can always buy canned goods, instant noodles or eat at fastfoods! hehe. But seriously, yes, you can take this class.
Hi Abaniko, sure, I have a list of people I promised to feed after my culinary classes! But the thing is one principle I learned is “Serve hot food hot;Serve cold food cold.” Now my friends are willingly lending me their kitchens so I could cook for them.

i don’t think i’m up for the cooking lessons right now, but let me know if your class needs food tasters and i’ll round up a gang to come right over, he he
Hi Carlotta, yup, I made them. Sabi ni Singlguy I shouldn’t marry daw or else I’ll fatten my husband with my cooking which will then lead to his early death. hehe. Kawawa nga. If and when we meet each other someday, maybe I’d give you some.
And that goes for you too, Rina (about the brownies)! Sayang, tapos na ang classes namin. We don’t need any more food tasters but thanks for the very kind offer.

Hi Gypsy, talaga? Naks, bagay pala. Toque ang tawag sa chef’s hat. It was fun to wear, keeps hair off my face. Feeling pro-pey-sio-nal ako!
Hi Verns, we eat what we cook. We prepare food (salad, soup, main dish, special rice/pasta and dessert) good enough for 7 people (6 for the group members, the other one for the presentation). After the lecture, the chef gives us 2 pages of recipes then off we cook, for 2 hours.
Where I studied is one of the least expensive; some courses offer it for close to 50k (pero mas matagal naman kasi sa iba). Mine is just for 4 days.
