True love makes a man want, not a woman, but one particular woman—the beloved herself, not the pleasure she can give.

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.
Nine days after the onset of the New Year and I find myself wondering what to write about. No, the absence of thoughts is not the reason. But for now, while the waters are not yet still, I revisited these lovely quotes from the brilliant mind of CS Lewis. These quotes are from a man who first loved a woman when he was in his sixties (he later lost the love of his life, Joy Gresham, to cancer). Will write again. Soon.
*OOPS! In the course of writing this post, I accidentally deleted my previous post entitled “More wishes for the New Year.” I will try to recover that post from my laptop (Can’t remember if I wrote it first using Microsoft Word) but for now, for those who left comments, I’m sorry! ( I guess I should add another item to my wishes: More presence of mind while blogging!)

Nope, I don’t think so, Micjornitboy. But when I see his book, I’ll make sure I’ll read the blurb and consider its contents. Thanks for the recommendation.
at first i thought, “oh the lines’ are from shadows and fogs”. then realized shadows and fogs’ a woody allen film; i’m trying very hard not to press ‘google it!’ to test my memory. maybe from the book that inspired the movie shadowlands? happy new year!:-)
I think from the book Four Loves by CS Lewis.
As for shadowlands, i know i have an audio book of it somewhere. but maybe i should watch the movie. Uy, thanks again for the gift. I appreciate it very much. Happy New Year din.
