For the past three days now, one gadget has occupied my mind: Phone, a new cellphone. The last time I lusted over a cellphone was a long time ago (When I was ready to buy it, I realized it was already phased out. I guess I waited too long. Note to self: Sometimes, patience is not a virtue).
The latest object of my desire is a Samsung touchscreen phone. Citibank is offering one of the least expensive among the touchscreen units under its paylite scheme but false advertising turned me off from considering it (not the phone’s problem; more like the promo itself). Last night, Abaniko and Gypsy went to the Samsung shop in Robinsons Galeria with me. There I found the models Jet and Preston. Both have their own merits, with one boasting of being able to accommodate bigger expandable memory. I think I already know what I want.
I bought my present clunky candybar phone (which didn’t look too bad when I first bought it) in June 2006 after saying goodbye to my Nokia. Of late, my Sony Ericsson would suddenly turn itself off while I’m composing a text message. It’s like a cranky old man who suddenly refuses to talk to… a dog (I’m confusing real life with movies here. See Up). Based on SE’s erratic behavior lately, I have reasons to believe that its trip to cellphone heaven is nearing. This is the reason why I am seriously considering getting myself a new phone, notwithstanding my personal vow of not replacing a gadget unless it flatlines.
Is it time for a new phone? Maybe yes, maybe not. Maybe I can wait some more. But lately, I’ve been learning this—Life is too short to wait. Maybe I can skip to point C without going through point B. The right new phone is out there somewhere. After 38 months with Sony, maybe it’s time to be acquainted with something new without me feeling phony*.
*Pun intended! I just had to put that in so my title makes sense.

I thought you’re feeling touchy. Mahilig ka sa touch-screen phones, di ba? Hehe. Parehong negative ano? Phony and touchy. So unyou.
You don’t know how relieved I am that you included the last two words in your comment, plus a smiley.
On the phone, I really hope I can decide soon. Now if I weren’t tied to a plan, I probably would’ve considered switching. Just so I can experience the peace that comes from knowing I can always run to you for help. :p
go bili na!
I will. Soon. I’m making it my reward for something I still need to accomplish.
So you’re on the Iphone now?
Nope, still using SE. But I’m considering Samsung Jet or Preston.
Iphone’s been getting bad press lately because of some units overheating and exploding (well, at least in France). So tell me, if not the Iphone, what do you think is the best touchscreen phone to buy?
I’m using HTC magic so I’m a little biased. I would have gotten the HTC Touch Diamond 2 if I didn’t come across the magic. The HTC magic is running on Android, the phone operating system from Google.
Now you’ve gotten me yearning for a pricier phone! Haha.
HTC Magic is actually available in the Philippines already. I’m now searching the net for a non-tied to a network unit (it’s tied to SMART).
For how long have you been using it?
A month or so. I bought it off the net as well. too expensive to get it with a plan.
If I do decide to get it, I hope I can find a good-priced phone on the net. Under a plan, it costs 39k. Salamat, Gene.
