For Good

I’ve heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true
But I know I’m who I am today
Because I knew you…

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

I’m trying to learn the songs from the Broadway Musical “Wicked” because if by some stroke of misfortune that Glinda and Elphaba can’t make it on stage, I can fly to NY, go to Broadway, and sing this song.

Of all the nineteen tracks in the album, this one resonated with me the strongest. You see, my heart wells with gratitude for the many people God has used—and is still using—to make me a better person. They come in all shapes and sizes, and if you had the time, I’d regale you with stories illustrating their charm, quirks and amusing eccentricities. Many times, after a particularly pleasant conversation, I’d shake my head in utter amazement and wonder, “How did I deserve having this kind of person in my life? Dear God, You gave me rainbows and chocolates (well, okay, the cocoa beans), and this too?”

If Glinda and Elphaba can sing about their deep appreciation of each other, why can’t I sing about the people in my life too? This time, though, the number won’t be a duet but a solo. And I will be singing not to an audience of thousands but of One. And while singing I will also be praying, asking God that I—flawed yet forgiven me—be the kind of person who can help another be changed for the good too.

This song is beautiful — and so is the whole musicale! Fly to New York and watch it live! I watched the play only on DVD, but enjoyed it immensely.

I already did, Ate Grace. ๐Ÿ™‚ Last April 2, I watched it. What a way to cap my NY trip! ๐Ÿ™‚ Best musicale on Broadway I have seen. Funny, while watching I was thinking, “Lord, how I wish there would be performances like this to watch in heaven.” Well, but I’m sure this will pale to the beauty and glory up there. ๐Ÿ™‚

that is one of my most favorite songs in wicked, alongside defying gravity. but actually i like all the songs in wicked. ๐Ÿ˜€ galing, you were able to watch it on broadway! that’s so much better than watching it on youtube (coz someone uploaded the whole thing before, with idina menzel and kristin chenoweth playing elphaba and galinda)

It was really a blessing from the Lord (through my sister) that I was able to watch it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I will check out if the Wicked videos are still available. Thanks for the heads up. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Inspiring lyrics from the witches, indeed. Hehe.

I hope I’ll have the chance to watch the musicale again. As I’ve told you, I slept through significant portions of the show in West End. Was probably too tired from all the day’s walking.

Hey, it’s over 3 weeks now that your Wicked cd’s playing on my car stereo. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Beng says:

Alan, how unlikely, right? “Witches, inspiring,” in the same sentence? ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes you just gotta look long and hard enough to know what person’s really worth.

You don’t need to go to Broadway (or West End, for that matter) to watch it again. Youtube?

Three weeks na pala since we had that tasty fish and squid. Funny how I remembered the food; I really enjoyed it. Three weeks is a long time to have a CD playing in your car. Will it ever come close to your “You’re a good man, Charlie Brown”album? Doesn’t matter. I’m just glad you’re still playing it.
