Random thoughts @ 12

I am loving my Kindle. I bring it with me wherever I go and it now holds the distinction of being my most favorite gadget. Aside from fulfilling its primary purpose (let me read books), it also allows me to listen to music and surf the net. Thank you, Amazon, for making this incredible 4.5 out of 5 stars gadget, and thank you, Nang and Chris (my sis and bro-in-law) for getting it for me. 🙂 If ever I get marooned on an island, I know which gadget to bring. It can take care of my boredom for 2 weeks (span of battery life per charge), or until the rescue team arrives, whichever comes first. (Trivia: The first book I paid for? Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. The most recent? Forgotten God by Francis Chan.)

L’Heure d’ete’ (Summer Hours) is the title of the French film we watched a few nights ago. I left  Shangrila cinema pensive and thinking of my earthly possessions (though nothing I own deserves to be displayed in a museum, or auctioned in Christie’s in NY!). What will become of my temporal treasures after I die? Watching that film gave me another reason to hold on to material things loosely because no matter how much I love something, I can’t expect another to cherish it the same way I do. Could this also be the reason why Jesus said what He said in Matthew 6:19 (Go check it out)? On a different note, this film also made me appreciate the beauty and simplicity of French movies. French filmmakers do not tell fantastic stories and try to solve the world’s problems in 2 hours. Instead, they let us take a peek inside the lives and issues of people who could be our next-door neighbors. One leaves the cinema feeling like he has spent a couple of hours eavesdropping. Tres Bien!

We need a new router. The CD-R king LO series router has conked out on us and it’s such a hassle having the need to come down from my room upstairs to connect to the internet (PLDT DSL). If you have any recommendations, please feel free to leave me a comment. Or if you have an extra router somewhere in your house, please feel free . . . to give it to me for free. 😉 LOL. Kidding.

Let me end this randomness by linking to a post written by a husband who surprised his Apple-loving wife on her birthday. I couldn’t help but write a comment on a stranger’s website. I said, “May your tribe increase, Stefan! 🙂 What a birthday gift for your wife. Genius!”
